Sure, it is chilly outside now, but we know North California weather and we know it will be hot and sunny again in no time. Is your air conditioning unit ready for the summer?
At Pelle Heating & Air Conditioning, we receive countless frantic calls on the first hot day each year due to broken or poorly working AC units. Unfortunately, most homeowners are not familiar with the warning signs of a failing air conditioner—and we intend to remedy this!
Do you know the signs? No? All too often, homeowners avoid calling a technician/contractor due to a fear of costly repairs. But, most air conditioning repairs in San Jose are simple and relatively inexpensive.
These 5 warning signs should keep you ahead of the curve and ready for the San Jose summer!
Warning #1: No cool air
Ok, this seems obvious. But, the absence of cool air is not usually an abrupt change. Think back (before the winter months hit)—were you comfortable and cool in your home or did you often fidget with the thermostat only to be dissatisfied with the temperature? Lack of cool air from your unit may mean the compressor is or has failed, or that the Freon levels are too low.
Warning #2: Thermostat issues
Walk around your home—is one side too cold while the other is uncomfortably warm? Often times what appears to be an air conditioning concern is actually just a faulty thermostat. This is an easy repair for our team.
Warning #3: Poor airflow
Poor airflow in a given room or area of the home indicates a different issue than indicated in Warning #1. Instead, this is evident when you notice the strength of the airflow (not the temperature) has decreased from what it once was. Over time, debris may have lodged itself in the ducts, blocking airflow (which can pose a health risk to your family).
Warning #4: Odd sounds
You know your home’s unique sounds. Hear new ones? For example, do you hear a grating or a screeching sound? Please know this is not normal for an air conditioning unit and needs to be addressed. Screeching sounds could mean a belt has slipped (and if addressed immediately, repairs are simple). But, a grating/grinding sound could indicate a motor issue. Unfortunately, this often suggests a replacement is needed. Don’t worry—if repairs are possible and we can help you prolong any additional costs, we will! Nevertheless, do not procrastinate (it could cost you).
Warning #5: Stinky AC unit
Musty, moldy smells could mean exactly that: there’s mold present inside the ductwork. Obviously, this could pose a health risk to your family. If you notice a very strong, foul smell, this could mean there was a recent burn out in the wiring. This could be a very serious repair if you ignore either of these warning smells. Call us.
Again, do not fear a potentially large repair bill and avoid contacting our team here at Pelle Heating & Air Conditioning. Remember: most repairs are simple. Let us help you avoid a bigger problem and let’s get you ready for the San Jose heat!
